Daryn Williams joined the technical staff of the RTVF Department in August 2005. He has worked in television and film production professionally since 1993, but he loaded his first 16mm film camera at the age of 8 for his father who filmed high school football games.
Daryn has worked on television sporting events from municipal slow pitch softball to Major League Baseball. Sports he has covered include: TCU football and basketball, minor league hockey, F.C. Dallas, Dallas Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks, horse racing at Lone Star Park, and auto racing at Texas Motor Speedway. He has worked on telecasts of the 2004 American LeMans Series at Texas Motor Speedway, the 2005 Breeder’s Cup at Lone Star Park, the 2005 and 2006 Major League Soccer Cup, and several matches of the men’s and women’s National Soccer teams. For sporting events, Daryn specializes in camera jibs.
From 2000 to 2002, Daryn served as a news videographer at KWTX-TV (Channel 10) the CBS affiliate in Waco, TX. While there he covered the 2000 election from Crawford (President Bush’s Western White House). He also covered the President's arrivals and departures on Air Force One. Daryn covered the State Visits of President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Sheik of Saudi Arabia, and the Economic Minister of China. Daryn had two stories carried nationally on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, and many more which were distributed nationally through the CBS affiliate system.
Daryn works on film productions and commercial shoots from time to time, and most recently worked as a construction supervisor on a film, “Broke Sky”, selected for the South by Southwest Film Festival. In 2005, he worked with Richard Petty on a series of national Goodyear commercials, and in 2007 he worked on the DVD high definition production of “Rodney Carrington: Live at the Majestic” as a steadi-cam assistant.
Daryn currently serves as the Equipment Room Supervisor for the department. He is in charge of all field equipment including more than 80 video and film cameras. For production classes, Daryn gives about fifteen equipment demonstrations a semester, and advises students individually on their productions.
He holds an Associate of Arts degree and Associate of Applied Science in Media Communication from Tarrant County Junior College. He received his B.S. in Electronic Media from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Currently Daryn is working on his M.F.A. in Documentary Filmmaking at North Texas. |
